Siemens Softstarts

The Siemens Sirius range is a technologically advanced solution which provides a soft alternative startup for machine applications in almost every environment. Its intelligent functions are eminently suitable for sophisticated drive demand situations, such as heavy-duty starting, but it is also capable of more simple drive applications. A Siemens softstart guarantees an easy, efficient and smooth three-phase motor initiation, with reliable implementation of machine concepts.

Siemens 3RW5

The Siemens Sirius 3RW5 softstarts fall into two categories: the general performance 3RW52 and the high performance 3RW55. Siemens Sirius 3RW5s offer maximum flexibility, with optional plug-in communication modules (Profibus, Profinet, Modbus) and HMI modules. They can be supplied with either thermistor motor protection or an analogue output. The Siemens 3RW52 softstarts offer modern hybrid switching technology, and intelligent functions such as pump cleaning, automatic parameterisation, and condition monitoring.

Siemens 3RW5217

The Siemens 3RW5217 is suitable for any kind of drive. Its three-phase control allows an optimal soft start in performance classes from 5.5 to 560 kW, and is a very viable alternative to star-delta starting. Three-phase control of the motor maintains input current at a minimum value in all three motor phases throughout the duration of the startup.

Hybrid Switching

The Siemens 3RW5217 is equipped with Siemens' next-generation hybrid switching technology for optimal performance. The advantages of precision electronic control are conferred on the starting current via power semiconductors, and combined with the low-loss conducting properties historically enjoyed by mechanical switching contacts to maintain current until shutdown. This system allows for a long lived, low energy and cost-efficient machine startup and stable operational process.

TIA Integration

Optional HMI modules and communication modules are available with all Sirius softstarts. The Siemens TIA Portal offers efficient configuration, and the maximum flexibility of design and commissioning in automation engineering worldwide. Using the TIA Selection Tool, for example, products can be selected with a configurator for each project, while the soft starter engineering tool assists in the monitoring and diagnosis of Sirius softstarts.

Versatile Range

The Siemens Sirius 3RW5 range offers a wide selection of models in globally accessible power voltages, from 24V to 110-250V in both DC and AC supply. Models are also available in line supply voltages from 200-600V, so this device is extremely versatile, with high system availability and low variance, even when supply networks are weak.
